Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes was a Manchester United target after Adrien Rabiot’s deal collapsed.
It was always going to be a summer-long transfer window where the midfielder changed a lot from last season.
Man United fans will remember that for most games, Scott McTominay and Fred were paired up in the middle of the pitch.
This season, the Scotland international has been part of the midfield, often alongside Christian Eriksen.
With the arrival of Casemiro, it looks like a new midfield will be used at some point in the season, with the five-time Champions League winner taking McTominay’s place in the line-up.
With Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage in the academy, it could be a great season in Europe for some young midfield talent.
According to Fabrizio Romano, via Caught Offside, after a deal for Rabiot collapsed, United quickly piqued interest in then-Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes.
However, no move materialized, with the Argentina international moving to Italian giants Juventus instead.
The journalist affirms that before Casemiro went on the market, Paredes was an alternative target; however, he only wanted to go over to the Italian side.
The Peoples Person reported last month that the midfielder had turned down a move to Old Trafford.
Clearly the 28-year-old wanted to stay at a Champions League club to compete at the highest level.
United fans will still be happy to see that the club were able to bring in a couple of midfield signings to compete with the current set of players.
