In a thrilling 10-round bout between two undefeated young fighters, Filipino featherweight Lienard “The Matrix” Sarcon (10-0, 6 KO’s), showcased his best fighting skills as he knocked down and defeated world-ranked South Korean warrior Jong Seon Kang. (15-1-2, 8 KO’s) of Gwangju on Sunday, September 4 at the Korea Technological University campus in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-ro, ROK.
With the important victory, the 22-year-old Filipino southpaw from Davao’s Garden City claimed the vacant regular WBA Asia featherweight title, absolutely the most important victory in his 5-year professional boxing career.
Sarcon performed extremely well on his first trip out of his beloved Philippines, being relaxed and friendly during Saturday’s weigh-in; then he fought with determination and power during Sunday’s bout, shaking 20-year-old Jong Kang to the canvas during exciting Round 3 action.
The strong Kang, ranked at this time as world number 15 by the WBO, took the count from Seoul referee Kwan Ho Jang; then, clenching his fists, the South Korean weathered the storm, showing his heart and his own skills as he fought to the sound of the final bell.
The official scores were 96-93 (twice) and 96-95, all in favor of Sarcon, a promising 126-pound youngster who wants to make his mark in professional boxing.
The winning Sarcon was guided in his fight in South Korea by Davao’s experienced trainer Nonoy Neri, a veteran boxer who helped boxing king Manny Pacquiao in his memorable battles.
The intense “Kang vs. Sarcon” battle was the main event of a 10-fight card promoted by former two-time WBA light flyweight world champion “Sonagi” Myung Woo Yuh, director of Korea’s Buffalo Promotions.
