Former Olympian Charly Suarez makes another defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asian Super Featherweight title when he takes on national champion Carlo Magali (25 wins) in the city of Parañaque on October 23.
Suarez looks to remain undefeated and continue his rise up the super featherweight division and maintain a world title run. He is currently ranked 36th in the World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight division, in which the reigning champion is American star Shakur Stevenson.
The year of Suarez, 34, has been very impressive. He began 2022 with a twelfth-round TKO over Tomjune Mangubat to win the vacant WBA Asia belt.
He followed that victory with a lopsided unanimous decision over Junny Salogaol in a tune-up last June. He then defeated the experienced Marjohn Yap by unanimous decision in his first WBA Asia title defense on August 7.
Magali was supposed to fight in South Africa last August 21 in a World Boxing Federation (WBF) lightweight title fight against Ayanda Nkosi, but the fight was cancelled.
The robust Magali has a reputation for pulling off big surprises. One of the biggest victories of her career was when she knocked out Davey Browne Jr. to win the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific super featherweight belt in Australia.
Unfortunately, Browne Jr. did not wake up from the knockout and died a few days later. Magali is also a former Eastern and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF).
He has also beaten the likes of Mark JohnYap (twice), Rey Perez and Mark Gil Melligen. Magali was also impressive in his most recent performance, a dominating victory over local lightweight star Al Toyogon.
Magali has a record of 25 wins (13KO) and has the professional experience advantage over Suarez, who is undefeated in 12 wins (7KO).
“We know we have a lot of work to do to achieve our goals, and we are very grateful to have opportunities to fight good opponents for the belts as we look to improve.” said the Warrior of the King Charly Suárez.
“Carlo Magali has been a big name in Philippine boxing for a long time, and he has also beaten some of the best that he was not expected to beat. So let’s not underestimate this boxer!
We are preparing for a war as we expect Magali to try to fight. He will be looking for the knockout. We will be smart, but we are ready to fight fire with fire!”
Charly Suárez and Carlo Magali will fight for the WBA RP National Championship and Asian Championship belts.
Suárez leaves nothing to chance in his rise up the world rankings, but Magali has a style that has previously foiled the plans of many more favored opponents.
