By Allan Fox: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis gave Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz some bad news last Sunday night by telling him via Twitter that he wants him to fight Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero next.
Tank appears to be on a crash course with unbeaten contender Ryan Garcia next, so he won’t be available to defend against Pitbull Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) in a rematch.
There is still not enough interest in a second fight between Pitbull Cruz and Tank Davis. If Cruz wants to help his situation, he will take Tank’s advice to fight Rolly Romero next. It would be a fight that would attract a lot of interest from fans.
Cruz, 24, made easy work of the skittish-looking Eduardo Ramirez (27-3-3, 12 KOs), stopping him in the second round on Sunday night.
Ramirez was running around the ring, throwing no punches and focusing solely on survival. In the second round, Cruz dropped Ramirez face-first on the canvas with a left hook to the head.
A short time later, Cruz caught up with Ramirez and dropped him for the second time in the round with a left hook filled by a strong right hand. At that moment, the referee stopped him.
“Rolly and Isaac Cruz need to fight,” Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis said. “I know who doesn’t want to fight Cruz because he doesn’t have a chin,” Tank said, hinting that Ryan Garcia doesn’t have the jawbone to take on Pitbull Cruz.
“We want the rematch with Gervonta Davis. These fans have been great. I went out and did what I promised. I did it tonight,” Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz said after his second-round knockout of the hapless Eduardo Ramirez last Sunday night.
“Get Devin Haney. He’s the champion and I’m the interim champion, so we’re going to bring him in,” Pitbull Cruz said when asked who he wants to fight if he can’t get a rematch with Gervonta.
Undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney will fight George Kambosos Jr on October 15. If Haney wins, his promoters at Top Rank want to match him up with Vasyl Lomachenko. That’s a bigger fight for Haney than defending against Isaac Cruz.
“I was ready to win at all costs. For my family, my wife, my children and what better than to win it here for all the Los Angeles fans who are with me,” Cruz said.
