By Sean Jones: Ryan Garcia and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis discussed on social media today about a possible fight in December.
Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) egged on Tank Davis by mentioning to his millions of Twitter followers that he will fight in December, which happens to be the same month Gervonta fights.
From there, Tank (27-0, 25 KOs) unleashed the dogs of war on Ryan, sarcastically saying that a lot of people have “balls this week.”
Ryan then scolded Tank for his refusal to go up to 140 to fight him, saying that he needs to have an advantage against his opponents, which he feels is cowardice.
Tank’s last words seemed to suggest there’s a good chance he and Ryan will fight in December.
. Of course, that remains to be seen, as there is always the possibility that Mayweather Promotions will pit Tank against Abner Mares next if he wins his comeback fight this Sunday night.

“There has been no substantial movement for a fight between Tank Davis and Ryan Garcia, but one of the parties involved believes the fight will happen,” Chris Mannix told DAZN’s JABS.
“Speaking to Fighthype, Calvin Ford, Davis’s trainer, said, ‘It’s going to happen. ‘Listen, all those fights are going to happen. You just have to wait until the stars and the stars and the moon align for it to happen.’”
“Stars aligned, and maybe the next time Halley’s Comet passes by, I just don’t see it happening,” Sergio Mora said. “Tank Davis is following the exact same playbook as Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.
He’s following the money. You’re taking the least amount of risk for the most money, and you’re going to take advantage of that all the way to the bank. He’s going to do it until he’s 30.
“Tank Davis is turning 28 this year and he has yet to fight a legitimate champion in his weight division in his prime. I don’t see it happening now.
“Garcia hasn’t even won a title, and you see this guy chasing him, calling him out on social media, saying he’s going to do it. If Tank Davis would just turn around and say, ‘Let’s see, let’s see if you’re a man of your word. I’m going to sign my contract, and see if you sign yours.
“Then we will see if García cries wolf. At this time, Mayweather Promotions will not lay its golden goose [Tank Davis] On the line. . They’re making too much money and laughing all the way to the bank.
“Why are they going to put this man at risk? I don’t see it. This is business first and boxing second.”
“To me, it’s disrespectful to Floyd Mayweather to say that Gervonta Davis is following Mayweather’s model because before he was ‘Money’ Mayweather, ‘Pretty Boy’ fought everyone.
“He approached and fought Genaro Hernández when he was in his early 20s. He went out and fought twice with José Luis Castillo. He had an epic fight against Diego Corrales, who at the time was one of the best in his weight division.
“So, Mayweather fought the best before he fought De La Hoya and became kind of a caricature, who did all the things you’re talking about. I have been disappointed in Gervonta Davis’s lack of proactivity.
“You haven’t heard much from Gervonta about fighting Ryan Garcia. Ryan Garcia has been very eloquent about it. He has pushed Golden Boy behind the scenes. He has put pressure on his management to make that fight happen.
“We haven’t heard much from Gervonta. I’m not saying he needs to come out every day, saying that’s the fight he wants, but maybe a Tweet on social media or something in an interview to make us believe he really wants this fight.
“Right now, it looks like Ryan Garcia is looking in a different direction before the end of the year, and Tank Davis will be looking in a different direction before the end of the year.
“If this fight doesn’t happen this year, I don’t think it will ever happen. It’s just because, with one more fight at 140, Ryan Garcia will get more and more entrenched in that weight class.
“It will make it less and less likely that I will go down to 135 to fight Tank Davis. We have already heard from Tank’s side that he will not go up to 140 to face Ryan Garcia.
“For a while, I was optimistic. In mid-July and early August, I felt like this fight could be made because neither of these guys had any great options before the end of the year. But I think we could be disappointed by the two opponents they will face in 2022,” Mannix said.
“Because it’s a business, a promotion and a management, and so many people have their hands in the fighter’s pockets,” Mora said. “They are making a lot of money, the networks, everyone.
“Everyone is making money. So the fighters are happy to earn money. Fighters are happy to win championships, whether or not they’re beating No. 1. There are so many belts out there. You can call yourself a champion now.
“So technically he’s a two-division champion, Tank Davis is, but he hasn’t fought the No. 1 fighter in any weight class. He has made a lot of money, millions of dollars already. I don’t see him changing it.
“Ryan Garcia, on the other hand, is making millions of dollars. He’s up against former champions, but he hasn’t won a legitimate world championship either.
“So these two guys are headed in the right direction financially. Why are they going to face each other and one of their careers is going to go the other way? I don’t see it. I’m with you on this,” Mora said.
“Well, you’re with me more or less,” Mannix said. “You think they shouldn’t meet, and I think they should because at some point, you have to prove something in the sport of boxing.
“Gervonta has shown that he can draw huge crowds in various cities across the US He has not shown that he is an elite fighter at this stage. You mention his age. In November he will be 28 years old.
“So if you look a little bit forward in the landscape at 135 and 14o. Devin Haney is locked up for the rest of this year. If Top Rank is to be believed, he will face Lomachenko in the first half of next year.
“Ryan Garcia is trying to get into the mix with the best at 140. At 135, will we see Tank against Shakur Stevenson?” Mannix said.
“No way,” Mora said about Tank not fighting Shakur.
“Are we going to see him against a lower level lightweight?” Mannix said. “We could be talking about Tank Davis approaching the age of 30 without having a significant fight.
“A fighter deserves criticism for that. I mean, they do. If you like watching Tank crush these opponents, they are 8-to-1, 10-to-1, 12-to-1, and 15-to-1 losers.
“Okay, okay, but at some point, you have to establish credibility in boxing. Right now Tank doesn’t have it,” Mannix said.
“That’s why we’re here criticizing him, and here’s the thing. I think Tank should fight guys like Garcia, but on the other side. I also know that I am a fighter, and money and longevity come first for a fighter,” Mora said.
“Ryan Garcia should avoid a fight with Tank Davis right now. That’s how you know I’m seeing it both ways. Tank, 28, should fight somebody, and Ryan Garcia should make as much money as he can while he can,” Mora said.
“You should have made more money in your career,” Mannix said.
“I should. A reality show was the most money I’ve ever made. That’s the way it is for some people. We have it tough,” Mora said.
