Peter Fury, head trainer to WBO middleweight champion Savannah Marshall, warned that his fighter is easily the most dangerous puncher in women’s boxing.
Marshall will collide with IBF, WBA and WBC champion Claressa Shields in an undisputed showdown on September 10 at London’s O2 Arena.
The British fighter has knocked out 10 of her 12 opponents.
“She has devastating power in both hands. By far the hardest hitter in history, back and forth,” Fury told Sky Sports.
“I have someone who is six foot tall, who can do multiple weights with ease, which is a gift in itself, who is as strong as some men, with weights, cardio. She is a talented athlete. Savannah’s best, too.” It will be a lot for anyone.”
Fury is training Marshall harder than ever in his life.
“I told Savannah in this camp, now it’s going to be harder than ever. I told her it’s going to be brutal to be honest, and I’m going to treat you brutally too,” Fury said.
“So you need to understand when it is like this, there is no place to waste time, do it, [if] it’s wrong, do it right. That is what it is. So is this camp. Once you know that, you know what you’re up against. When you fight to unify belts, it’s serious business. If there’s 100 percent, I don’t want 99.8, I want 100. Everything I say to my fighters and everything I say to Savannah, ‘hell and high water await you.’ ‘This is the toughest fight of your career, train like this.’ So she’s prepared for absolute Armageddon.”
Marshall remains the only boxer to have defeated Shields in a boxing ring, securing a decision when the two boxers were fighting as amateurs.
Shields would go on to capture gold in two Olympic games. As a professional, he has captured world titles in three weight classes.
