Antony made an emotional Instagram post after helping Manchester United to a 3-1 win over Arsenal on his Old Trafford debut yesterday.
United’s latest signing opened his career with a first-half goal which he coolly took and set United on course for a fourth successive win.
The Brazilian was a living wire, injecting fire and energy into United’s right flank.
He was substituted for Cristiano Ronaldo in the 58th minute and one of the Instagram Story photos was of him hugging the 37-year-old, with the caption “@cristiano – Ídolo”, which means “idol” in Portuguese.
He wrote: “What an amazing day! Thank you so much to all the MU staff and my teammates! I’ll never forget this day! To the United fans, all my love for this welcome! Let’s go for more! That’s just the beginning!”
The Times’ Henry Winter notes that “From the moment Antony, the £85m Brazilian, repeatedly swung his left foot on the ball to taunt Arsenal, Manchester United fans had a new favourite.
“They love players with a touch of arrogance. But Antony brings much more than tricks. He brings belief. On his debut yesterday at a passionate Old Trafford, Antony was a shot of adrenaline for United.”
After not playing for three weeks, coach Erik ten Hag threw Antony in the deep end and that faith paid off.
While Marcus Rashford deservedly won the man of the match award for his two goals and assist, the 22-year-old was certainly a big factor in the win and has every right to be happy with his debut.

Antony is likely to feature again on Thursday when United take on Real Sociedad in their first game of the season in the Europa League group stage.
Ten Hag will want his new star to get minutes under his belt as he returns to full fitness, with another Premier League game against Crystal Palace shortly after that on Sunday.
