Man Utd news: Jurrien Timber has dismissed claims that former Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal told him not to join the Old Trafford team.
Timber was among the players linked with a move to Man Utd as the Red Devils looked to strengthen their defensive department.
Despite interest from Manchester United, Timber decided to stay at Ajax, where he recently signed a new contract. The 21-year-old signed a contract that runs until 2025 in August earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Man Utd finally signed Timber’s then-Ajax teammate Lisandro Martinez to bolster their defensive department. The Argentine defender joined Man Utd in the summer on a five-year deal with the option of a further year.

Some reports suggested that former Man Utd manager Van Gaal talked Timber out of moving to the Old Trafford team.
Timber has now dismissed such suggestions and even revealed what the current Netherlands coach actually said. The Dutch defender revealed that Van Gaal had told him that he would get minutes at Man Utd if he decided to join the Old Trafford team.
“Many things that are written in the media are false. Like when people say that it was Louis van Gaal who told me not to go to Manchester United. In fact, he said that he would do minutes there,” Timber told AD.
Meanwhile, Man Utd made six signings in the summer transfer window. Of those, three players were signed from the Eredivisie. The Manchester outfit signed left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.
Manager Erik ten Hag also met Antony and Lisandro Martinez, both of whom left Ajax for the Premier League side.
Man Utd also signed Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. The Danish midfielder joined Man Utd after impressing during his brief stint at Brentford last season.
Man Utd have also signed defensive midfielder Casemiro, with the Brazilian joining Spanish giants Real Madrid. He also signed goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, Man Utd have recovered from a dismal start to the season that saw them suffer defeats in their opening two matches. Man Utd have won all four of their games since then and have picked up 12 points. Their last win came against leaders Arsenal when they inflicted a 3-1 loss on the league leaders.
