2021 MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix – how to watch, session times & more

MotoGP heads to Aragon for the thirteenth round of the 2021 world championship season, the Aragon Grand Prix, as the campaign progresses towards its decisive races.

Following Fabio Quartararo’s victory in the British GP, the Yamaha rider has a 65-point lead in the riders’ world championship over the reigning champion Joan Mir, and the Suzuki rider awarded after the Silverstone race the title of 2021 out of reach.

In Aragon, all eyes will be on Aprilia, following Aleix Espargaró’s historic podium at Silverstone to record the Italian manufacturer’s first grandstand in the modern era of MotoGP, while he will be joined by his new teammate, Maverick Vinales, after his separation from Yamaha.

The Spanish rider will make his MotoGP debut with Aprilia in Aragon, and Cal Crutchlow will continue to replace Yamaha while Jake Dixon duly stays on the Petronas SRT Yamaha motorcycle for this round ahead of Andrea Dovizioso’s return to the grid next weekend at Misano.

Quartararo will face a tough test of his MotoGP title credentials in Aragon, having seen his championship ambitions crumble on the Spanish circuit last year when he hosted a double title on the COVID-19 racing calendar. In 2020 the French rider finished out of the points at the Aragon GP while he could only get an eighth place at the Teruel GP a week later.

2021 MotoGP Aragon session calendar

MotoGP will run its standard schedule throughout the Aragon GP on Friday and Saturday, with two practice sessions on Friday lasting 45 minutes each. On Saturday, the third practice will also last 45 minutes, with the top 10 on the FP1-2-3 combined timesheet automatically entering Q2 of qualifying. The last 30 minute session of FP4 takes place on the Saturday afternoon before qualifying.

All riders who did not finish in the top 10 of the combined practice times participate in Q1 of the classification, and the top two finishers advanced to Q2 along with the top 10 who obtained an automatic place through their practice times. .

Q2 is the pole position session that decides the order of the first four rows, with the rest of the grid organized in the times of Q1, for Sunday’s GP of Aragon.
